Frequently Asked Questions

How can I make an appointment?

Please call (02) 9709 5885 during business hours to arrange an appropriate time for your appointment. We will endeavour to see all urgent cases in a timely manner. If it is an after-hours emergency, please contact the Sydney Eye Hospital Emergency Department on (02) 9382 7111.

What do I need to bring to my consultation?

Please bring:

  • Referral letter from the doctor or optometrist.
  • Your current spectacles/sunglasses.
  • A list of your medical history, medications and allergies (if available).
  • Medicare / private health fund / pension card.

How long does my consultation take?

Please allow 2-3 hours for your first consultation. Subsequent consultations may be shorter.

Are there any additional costs?

The consultation may require additional investigations or treatments to appropriately manage your eye condition. Our staff will inform you of the additional costs of these investigations or treatments if required.

How do I pay for my consultation?

Payment is made on the day of your appointment. We accept cash, EFTPOS, Visa or Mastercard. Informed written financial consent is provided prior to surgical procedures. Discounts are available for pensioners.

Where are my procedures done?

Most conditions can be managed at our clinic. Our clinic has a purpose built minor-ops room for minor surgical procedures including intravitreal injections. For major surgical procedures such as cataract surgery and retinal surgery, we operate at the Sydney Retina Clinic and Day Surgery (187 Macquarie St, Sydney CBD), Liverpool Eye Surgery (1 Moore St, Liverpool) and The Sydney Private Hospital (63 Victoria St, Ashfield).

Can I drive after my consultation?

Your pupils may be dilated for the consultation to allow a thorough eye examination. This will blur your vision for up to 4 hours. We suggest waiting up to 4 hours before driving. Alternatively, you could arrange to have an escort to help with transport or you should use public transport.

Where can I park my car?

There is a free council car park on Stanley Street opposite our clinic.
